Could you tell me a little about the Captain?
Hello, my name is Ronny and I am from Belgium. I have been fishing almost as long as I could hold the pole. For the last seven years i lived in Belgium, I have organized fishing trips all over Europe for me and my friends. We have enjoyed going to many places including: Sweden, Norway, Ireland, France, Germany, and Holland. But Ireland and Norway were my Favorites. In south Norway I came in contact with a man who had built up his location as a fishing destination, since the I have wanted to create my own fishing destination.

General asked questions about diving and spear fishing
Hey Greg, ... answers to questions. What did you think of his operation? I would go with him again. He is European (from Belgium), very nice and may fuss a little gruff at times, but he means well ... Just concerned for your safety. The boat is brand new ... I would rate it as the best boat for these waters from Galveston to Brownsville. Did you have a successful trip? Yes ... We won the tournament we were in ... I think that is successful. Where did you spearfish? By the "big yellow rigs." ... Sorry can't disclose numbers. Following Hurricane, water was cloudy so vis was low on a few dives. However, on 3 dives at 100fsw you could look up and see the boat and look down and almost see the bottom in 280fsw. What did it cost? Per day is $700.00 plus a nominal fuel surcharge (usually about $50) $750 divide by 5 = 150 each ... very reasonable. What sort of things should I bring on the trip? Bring everything you would for a trip to Cozumel I was looking at planning a trip in mid September. Is that a good or bad time or does it matter? September through December is actually the best time of year when seas are calmest. Is a wet suit required or is the water warm enough for a lycra suit? I wear a 3mm Henderson Hyperstretch, w/ 3mm hood, Booties and Kevlar gloves to protect me from sharp edges on rig. There would be about 5 people in our group. He can do up to 6 under his 6 pack charter license. You could hire me and I will fill the 6th spot at your expense + lodging (It would cost you about $40 each) Cheers, Semper Deep! Keith

How much tip should we give the deckhand or the captain on the boat?
This is a very common question and yet very difficult for most fishing guides to answer. In reality, most professional fishing guides do not fish for tips, nevertheless are very blessed by receiving tips. A gratuity is a way of saying, "good job," or, "thank you." This should be a way to show gratitude for going above and beyond the call of duty. Tipping in our society has evolved to the point that some restaurants, for example, actually and legally reduce the hourly wage because they can factor in tips. Tipping has become automatic and no longer carries the meaning that it used to. Most professional fishing guides will give a quality trip without even considering the tip; they shouldn't be standing on the shore with their hands out... If you desire to show your gratitude with a tip, go with your gut. If the fishing guide service was way beyond your expectations, tip very generously, if not, then tip very conservatively, if at all. For a general rule of thumb, anywhere between 10 and 20% is considered a "normal" tip.
IIf you thingk the deckhand or the Captain was very busy and the service was good , a +/- 10% from the total is very normal.
example: 550 total =$50 tip
